Planting Peace around the city!

The Sri Chinmoy Peace Tree Project

Join us in our goal to plant 50 trees around the Chicagoland area.
Each Peace Tree reminds us that
Peace is rooted in the earth but reaches for the sky!

Not just a Tree...

More than a tree...it's a community

2012-Wentworth Garden

In 2012, as part of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, a Sri Chinmoy Peace Tree was planted in Wentworth Gardens. At that time, Wentworth Gardens community was experiencing a particularly troubled time. The city had recently closed four huge high-rise housing projects in different areas of the city. A significant portion of the displaced people moved to a newly renovated development of two-unit row houses, bringing members of nine different gangs together. This led to weekly violence in the area, especially on summer weekends. The Wentworth Gardens’ community organization created a peace circle, which met regularly, surrounding the Sri Chinmoy Peace Tree. And the community experienced a full year with no violence! The remarkable leader, Miss Halley Amey, proclaimed it was all due to their Sri Chinmoy Peace Tree. Miss Amey passed on months later and the tree is now dedicated in her honor.

A Few Words About Us

The Peace-Tree Project is part of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run: a global torch relay that embodies humanity’s universal aspiration for peace.

Since its inception in 1987 the Run has traversed over 150 nations and territories and touched the lives of millions of people. We estimate since 1987 the torch has been carried over 395,000 miles (632,000 km). The Peace Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill among peoples of all nations.
